Luther Bernstein running for City Council place 2

To the Citizens of Farmers Branch

I have been a resident of Farmers Branch for over 43 years. I built & operated Josey Skateland for 26 years. I built & presently operate Interskate Roller Rink in Lewisville.
I am a successful businessman and still own several properties in Farmers Branch. Since 2006, I have seen this city develop from a tranquil, quiet, respected city into one in turmoil - one that has become divided, with neighbors pitted against neighbors. I do not believe our past City Councils, from 2006 forward, have acted in the best interest of our residents. In fact, they have continued to ignore the wishes of residents in many instances. This includes---lawsuits, appeals of lawsuits, certificates of obligation (not bonds) for construction of a water park, building & then the tearing down of the traffic obstacles on Golfing Green, and appointing citizens to City Boards without proper background checks.

For these reasons and other reasons, I am officially announcing my candidacy for City Council Place 2. I stand firmly on the following principles that I feel can make our City proud again:

1. Open and honest government including giving the citizens of Farmers Branch more voice in the affairs of Their City.

2. Fiscal responsibility--- No more spending unnecessary dollars on lawsuits & major capital improvements without first getting resident approval.

3. Appointment oversight.--- The main criteria for appointment of individuals to City Boards and Commissions will be their qualifications, rather than their friendships with Council members.

4. I will work to ensure that individuals with criminal backgrounds will not be appointed to any Boards and Commissions, especially those that affect children’s lives like the Parks & Recreation Board and the Library Board.  YES, This has been done by a previous City Council without proper background checks.

4. Infrastructure Improvement such as repairing streets, improving the City's water system, maintaining parks, and bringing more businesses to Farmers Branch.  YES, more businesses means more property tax dollars which means lower taxes for home owners.

If elected, I pledge to listen carefully to my constituents and vote accordingly.  I will work hard for greater trust and confidence in our Farmers Branch City Government by its Citizens.
